Globalization affects the chamorro language in today's society, because due to Western education the implimentation of teaching chamorro to elementary, middle, and high school students does not give ample time for a student to even learn a full sentence in a day. Our children today do not take their chamorro language seriously because it is not practiced at home, and it does affect our chamorro heritage of what was left and given by our ancestors. Globalization has changed the chamorro language drastically, because of new technology and how our chamorro community has adapt to the new economy.

Chamorro Language :

Chamorro is a Malayo-Polynesian language, with much Spanish influence, spoken by about 47,000 people.

The chamorro language has been spoken by many but mostly in their forty's to their elderly age; although there are rarely young people speaking in the chamorro language let alone understand it. The language is rarely spoken by the younger generations because when the parents try to involve the language in their children's lives they tend to ignore the attempt. It is also a probable reason that they are embarrassed to be involved in any of the chamorro events or activities including speaking their language.  Learning the Chamorro language is going to keep our language alive and will continue for a very long time for as long as we continue to teach our children and the next generations to come.

The traditional Chamorro number system was replaced by Spanish numbers. Because the Chamorro was colonized by Spain, most of our language and original numbers are derived fom the Spanish.
